Meteora literally means “hanging (suspended) between the earth and the sky.” This is both a poetic and an accurate description of the area.
Hundreds of thousands of visitors come to Meteora to feel the awe of seeing monasteries built on top of these precipitous rocks, some only accessible by rope-ladder or by being hoisted with rope nets.
These are places of worship, an ark of cultural treasures, these monasteries dominate Kalambaka Town and it is seemingly impossible to understand how they were ever built on virtually inaccessible towering boulders.
Come to Meteora to see one of the most incredible and spiritual places on earth. The local town has an excellent tourist infrastructure with hotels, restaurants, shops and cafes.
